Lost phone is a safety + process issue
When your helper loses her phone (Singapore) is how employers respond so she can still reach you, report the loss, and restore a number without turning it into a punishment fight. Ongoing phone/Wi‑Fi house rules sit in #31. This page owns the loss / breakage incident process.
General guidance only. Soft MOM: mom.gov.sg. SmartMaid.com.sg is a marketplace. Licensed EAs can advise. Platform ≠ agency. No device prices or salary figures here.

- This article: lost/broken phone process
Step 1 — Restore a way to reach each other today
- Give a temporary way to call (house phone / your spare / Wi‑Fi calling) without confiscating her privacy long-term
- Update emergency contacts on paper by the door (#38)
- Tell school/condo security a backup number if she does pickups (#126)
Step 2 — Report / SIM steps
Help her:
- Contact the mobile operator to suspend the lost SIM if needed
- Bring ID / Work Pass for replacement SIM (return originals after — #115)
- Note the new number on the house-rules contact list (#32)
Step 3 — Money for a replacement — process only
If she needs funds for a handset/SIM, use the advance/loan process (#113) — written, not a hallway debt. No $ amounts on this page.
Step 4 — What not to do
- Treat loss as proof she is “irresponsible” by nationality stereotype
- Withhold all communication as punishment
- Demand her new passwords or read her chats as a condition of help (#31)
Step 5 — Loop EA if loss ties to wider issues
Scams, coercion, or repeated crises: contact your licensed EA (#26). Marketplace ≠ phone support.

Scripts
To helper: We will sort a way to call each other today, then replace the SIM. Keep your new PIN private. If you need help paying for a phone, we use a written advance process — not a verbal IOU.
To co-employer: Safety first: temporary contact today. Money for a replacement follows the advance checklist if we help at all.
Bottom line
Restore contact, replace the SIM, keep boundaries — don’t turn a lost phone into control. Browse on SmartMaid; employment practice through a licensed EA under soft MOM rules.
