The first rest day sets the pattern
First rest day with a new helper: employer checklist (Singapore) is what to lock before her first weekly rest day after starting with you. MOM rest-day rules and fair arrangements sit in Rest Days for Domestic Helpers in Singapore: Rules and Fair Arrangements and Domestic Helper Rest Days in Singapore: What Employers Should Know. Arrival day-one sits in Day One Orientation Checklist for New MDWs. This page owns first rest-day execution.

Step 1 — Confirm the day in writing before the week starts
Same weekday as agreed, written on the house-rules / calendar (Can I Verbally Agree With My MDW on the Rest Day Arrangements?, Creating a Simple Written House Rules Sheet). Do not “see how busy we are” on the morning itself.
Step 2 — Lock a cover plan for kids / elderly / pets
Who is home? What must be done before she leaves? What waits until she returns? MOM weekly rest is not optional chore dumping — see Rest Days for Domestic Helpers in Singapore: Rules and Fair Arrangements.
Step 3 — Keys, phone, money for her day out (process only)
- She can leave and return without begging for the gate remote
- Phone charged; she knows how to reach you for true emergencies
- Any transport cash/top-up discussion stays figure-free on this page — use salary/advance process pages if money themes arise
Passport / Work Pass access: she should not be blocked from carrying what she needs (Passport and Personal Documents Safekeeping for MDWs (Singapore)).
Step 4 — Boundaries for the first rest day
- Expected return window if you agreed one (reasonable, written)
- Visitor rules if she rests at home (Introducing Your Helper to Neighbours and Extended Family)
- No “quick tasks” that eat the rest day unless she freely agrees and you follow fair swap / compensation process elsewhere — no $ here
Step 5 — Debrief lightly the next morning
Ask what worked (directions, Wi‑Fi hotspot, leftover food) and fix one friction point. Fold into the fortnight / first-month settling maps (First Two Weeks with a New Domestic Helper: Onboarding Tips, First-Month Settling-In With Your MDW (Singapore)).
