Step 1 — Decide yes/no and guest vs own login — before the next request
Say aloud whether the household laptop or desktop may be used at all, and on which account: a Guest / Limited user, a dedicated helper login you create with no admin rights, or never your main work / family account. Name whether the machine stays in a shared room (living room desk) or may move to her rest area. If co-employers disagree on “she can print homework for the kids” vs “no one else touches the work laptop,” align first (#120). Write the rule on the house-rules sheet (#32). Step 2 — Work files, cloud folders, and soft fairness for rest time
Separate two windows: (1) named household tasks she may do on the PC under your brief (print a school form, open a kids’ learning site you listed), and (2) her own leisure (messaging family, browsing, video calls) only in rest time you already agreed — and only on the Guest / helper login. Soft default: employer work documents, payroll, bank, and work cloud folders stay off-limits; she does not browse your Documents, Desktop, or synced Drive/OneDrive as if they were shared. Soft fairness: do not treat “you may use the laptop” as unpaid overnight admin duty or a substitute for her own phone. Soft privacy for her rest and belongings remains #29. Phone-time fairness stays on #31 — here you only decide whether the family PC is part of her rest options or stays employer-only.
Step 3 — Webcam, downloads, USB, and print rules
Name webcam default (cover on / Camera off unless you turn it on for a named video call with family). Say whether she may download installers, browser extensions, or free software; soft default: no new downloads without asking; no admin password shared. USB sticks and external drives: say whether she may plug in her own stick, copy files off the PC, or print to the home printer — and whether print is for household tasks only. Streaming logins (Netflix, Disney+, Spotify on employer accounts) stay on #178 — this step only covers what runs on the laptop / desktop itself. Step 4 — When/where, logout, and kids-photo off-ramp
Decide the when/where window: after dinner at the living-room desk, rest day only, never in your study after you close work files. Script logout: when her window ends, she signs out of the Guest / helper account (or closes the browser if you use a locked profile), does not leave your main account unlocked, and returns any USB or printed pages you allowed. Webcam cover back on. If she wants to take or keep photos or videos of the children from a laptop webcam or saved folder, that consent path is #191 — not a blank “Camera is open on the PC.” If a scam “verify Microsoft / Apple ID / bank” prompt appears on the laptop, route pressure to #166. Step 5 — Soft MOM, fair hours, and platform ≠ agency
Fair treatment and clear rest still apply when you set laptop rules — do not turn “you may use the desktop” into unpaid overnight device duty or a substitute for her own phone. Soft only on mom.gov.sg. Microsoft / Apple / browser commercial terms are outside MOM MDW placement rules — do not mix the two. To helper (webcam / kids photos): Do not turn on the webcam or save photos of the children from this computer unless I ask. Kids photo / video consent follows our brief (#191), not a blank Camera pass on the laptop.
To helper (scam / verify prompts): If the laptop shows a message asking you to “verify,” pay, unlock, or install something, stop and tell me (#166). Do not click through.
To co-employer: One laptop / desktop rule so she is not told “use my work PC anytime” by one of us and “never touch the computer” by the other (#120). Phone boundaries stay on #31; tablet / iPad on #193; streaming logins on #178; this brief is shared laptop / desktop only.
