Building Trust While Maintaining Employer Standards

Published 4 February 2027

Successful onboarding during onboarding a new domestic helper sets the tone for a stable employment relationship. Employers who plan orientation, safety, and communication early often avoid preventable friction later.

First-week orientation

Show cleaning equipment, kitchen rules, child routines, and emergency contacts. Write simple house rules if helpful. Allow time to adjust to your home layout and appliances.

Safety and privacy

Explain fire safety, balcony rules, and which areas are private. MOM expects suitable accommodation and reasonable privacy for MDWs.

Rest days and communication

Agree rest-day timing in advance. Encourage open communication while respecting cultural differences. Address small issues early with calm discussion.

Keep agency contact handy

Your agency remains a resource for contract questions, medical appointments, and Work Permit matters during the initial months.
