Step 1 — Name why the cleaner is coming — and what stays with the MDW
Say aloud what the part-time cleaner is for: weekly floors and bathrooms, a one-off deep clean, post-move tidy, or a named ad-hoc visit. Then name what stays with the live-in MDW on those days (childcare, cooking, laundry, daily wipe-downs, errands — whatever your house actually uses). Do not leave “everyone just clean” open; that is how two people trip over the same toilet or leave the kitchen untouched. A second live-in MDW is still #137; a short EA relief booking is still #145. This step is a task split for cleaner days, not a new employment contract.
Step 2 — Align co-employers on one task map before anyone arrives
Co-employers agree one version of “cleaner does X; MDW does Y on cleaner days” so the helper is not hearing two styles mid-morning (#120). Point to standing house rules for visitors and shared spaces (#32). If she has asked for a written duty roster, keep that ask on its own page (#186) — a cleaner-day split can be a short note, not a full roster rewrite. Soft fairness still matters: a cleaner visit should lighten named heavy chores, not pile “supervise the cleaner plus do your usual list” on top (#28).
Step 3 — Decide keys, access, and soft privacy for cleaning days
Who opens the door — you, the MDW, or a timed access arrangement you control? Say which rooms the cleaner may enter and which stay closed (her room, private drawers, employer study). Soft privacy for the live-in helper still applies while a cleaner is in the flat (#29). Phone / photo norms stay fair — no filming her or posting the cleaner’s work without a clear consent frame (#31). Do not hand the cleaner unsupervised run of the home if that conflicts with how you already brief visitors on the house-rules sheet (#32).
Step 4 — Brief both parties on schedule overlap — before the first visit
Tell the MDW the cleaner’s day, arrival window, and end time before the first visit — not as the doorbell rings. Tell the cleaner (or cleaning firm contact) who the live-in helper is, what she owns that day, and that task questions go to you, not to her as the decision-maker. If schedules overlap in the same rooms, name who steps aside. If co-employers disagree on “MDW stays home to let them in vs MDW goes out,” align first (#120). Step 5 — Soft fairness, rest-day clash, and platform ≠ agency
If cleaner day lands on or squeezes her rest day, flag it early and keep rest fair — soft framing on mom.gov.sg; standing workload habits on #28. After the cleaner leaves, confirm what is done vs what still sits with the MDW so “finish what they missed” does not become an open-ended evening.
