Holidays change the job — rewrite the plan before week one
When school holidays change your helper’s childcare routine (Singapore) is how employers reset duties when children are home all day. Term-time pickup briefing sits in School-Pickup Routine Briefing for Helpers (Singapore). Ad-hoc schedule change asks sit in Managing Helper Requests for Schedule Changes. This page owns the holiday routine reset.

Step 1 — Mark the holiday calendar
- School holiday start/end dates
- Camps / enrichment days (pickup still needed?)
- Family trips when children are away (duties shrink)
Step 2 — Rewrite a simple day block
Morning / lunch / afternoon / evening: who watches kids, meals, outdoor time, naps, screens. Remove dead term-time tasks (gate pickup) and add holiday ones explicitly on the house-rules sheet (Creating a Simple Written House Rules Sheet).
Step 3 — Protect rest days and sleep
Full-day childcare is heavier than school-term rhythms. Keep weekly rest fair (Rest Days for Domestic Helpers in Singapore: Rules and Fair Arrangements). Do not silently cancel rest days “because holidays.” Workload fairness: Preventing Burnout Through Fair Workloads.
Step 4 — Align co-employers on WFH / hybrid days
If parents work from home, decide who owns deep focus blocks vs who backs up the helper — avoid two bosses giving opposite instructions (When Co-Employers Disagree About the Helper (Singapore)).
Step 5 — Loop EA if the load is unsafe or she asks to exit
If holidays create chronic overtime without recovery, or she raises welfare concerns, contact your licensed EA (When to Loop the Agency Into Early Issues). Marketplace ≠ temporary holiday staffing.
MOM rules
Fair rest and welfare still apply in holiday weeks. Confirm MOM guidance on mom.gov.sg. for holiday “extra pay” figures here — use salary discussion process if you later agree something in writing (MDW Salary Discussion Process (Without Quoting Figures)).
Checklist
- Holiday dates marked
- Day block rewritten and shared
- Rest days still scheduled
- Co-employer WFH backup clear
- EA looped if overload / welfare risk
Scripts
To helper: School holidays start [date]. Pickup stops; daytime childcare plan is [blocks]. Your rest day stays [weekday] unless we agree a written swap.
To co-employer: Holidays are not free overtime. We rewrite the day plan and keep her rest day — or we hire camp cover ourselves.
Bottom line
Reset the childcare day plan before holidays start, and keep rest fair. Browse on SmartMaid; place through a licensed EA under MOM rules.
