A dinner party needs a same-evening briefing — not overnight-guest rules
Briefing your helper before you host a dinner party (Singapore) is the employer process for a same-evening sit-down meal with guests: what the menu and cook-serve timeline look like, whether she is plating/passing or staying in the kitchen, who owns the stove during service, when cleanup ends, whether the night touches her rest day, and soft privacy while strangers are in the flat. Overnight stays are a different presence map (#184). Multi-day festive peaks sit in #133. WFH quiet zones are a workday briefing (#185). This page owns the pre-dinner-party briefing.

Step 1 — Brief the day before (or morning-of), not as guests arrive
Walk the plan once: guest count, arrival window, sit-down time, and when you expect the kitchen to wind down. Co-employers agree one version so she is not hearing two service styles (#120). Point to standing house rules for guest behaviour in shared spaces (#32); this briefing is the evening’s cook–serve–cleanup map, not a rewrite of overnight guest rules (#184).
Step 2 — Fix menu timing and who cooks what
List courses or dishes in cook order: what she preps ahead, what you or a guest will cook, and which platters leave the kitchen at which time. Name allergens or “do not open” items without inventing grocery budgets — food-preference and grocery-list pages stay separate. Keep the timeline realistic so she is not plating while still frying. Soft privacy still applies in her room and private spaces while guests are present (#29).
Step 3 — Decide service vs mingling before the door opens
Say plainly whether she: (a) stays kitchen-side and hands dishes through, (b) plates or clears at the table on cue, or (c) is not expected to circulate and chat. Guests should not treat her as free entertainment; you set that line. Phone / photo norms for the evening stay fair — no filming her without consent (#31). If co-employers disagree on “help serve vs stay back,” align first (#120).
Step 4 — Name kitchen ownership and a hard cleanup end
During service, who may enter the kitchen, who washes as you go, and who puts leftovers away. After the last course, set a cleanup end time (e.g. kitchen reset by a named hour; remaining glasses wait until morning if you prefer). Do not leave “just finish everything tonight” open-ended after a late sit-down. Overnight bedding and bathroom access for staying guests belong on #184 — this page stops at same-evening meal service.
Step 5 — Flag rest-day impact and soft wind-down
If the dinner falls on or runs into her rest day, say so early and use your rest-day process (rest-day hub); soft framing on mom.gov.sg. Multi-day festive hosting plans stay on #133. After guests leave, confirm she can return to her room, quiet hours, and next-morning duties — not a surprise early start. Platform ≠ agency. No invented $.
Soft MOM
Fair treatment, clear rest, and reasonable hours still apply on hosting nights. Soft only on mom.gov.sg.

Scripts
To helper (day before): Tomorrow we have [N] guests for a sit-down dinner at [time]. Here is the cook order and when plating starts. During service please [kitchen-side / plate-and-clear on cue / stay off the dining floor]. Cleanup ends by [time]; leftover glasses can wait until morning if we run late.
To helper (rest-day clash): This dinner lands on your rest day — here is what we change so the evening does not erase the rest arrangement (rest-day hub + soft MOM). Tell me what still feels too tight.
To co-employer: One service style for her — kitchen-side vs table service — so she is not balancing two instructions mid-course (#120). Overnight stays, if any guests sleep over, use the overnight-guest plan (#184), not this dinner briefing.
To guests (optional, soft): Please do not ask her to pose for photos or stay and chat after service — we have already set her wind-down (#31 #29).
Bottom line
Brief the same-evening dinner party before guests arrive: menu timing, service vs mingling, kitchen ownership, a hard cleanup end, and any rest-day impact — keep overnight, festive, and WFH briefings on their own pages. Browse on SmartMaid; place through a licensed EA under soft MOM rules.
