Briefing Your Helper Before Pest Control or Fogging (Singapore)

Published 22 August 2026

Fogging day needs a short brief — not a surprise chemical smell

Briefing your helper before pest control or fogging (Singapore) is the employer checklist when a treatment is booked: when to leave and return, what to cover, pet/plant steps, and which duties pause. Everyday cleaning-product safety sits in #36. Renovation weeks sit in #165. Pet routines sit in #157. This page owns pest control / fogging day.

General guidance only — follow the pest contractor’s live instructions. Soft MOM: mom.gov.sg. SmartMaid.com.sg is a marketplace. Licensed EAs place helpers. Platform ≠ agency. No invented $ (no made-up treatment fees).

Neighbouring hubs:

Step 1 — Write date, time, and leave/return window

Copy the contractor’s re-entry hours into a note. Put it in house rules for that day (#32).

Step 2 — Cover food, utensils, and bedding

Follow the operator’s list: seal food, move toothbrushes, cover tanks if advised. This is treatment day — not the same as routine chemical use (#36).

Step 3 — Pets, plants, kids

Remove or secure pets per #157 and the contractor. Kids out of treated rooms until cleared.

Step 4 — Duty pause and where she waits

No deep cleaning during active treatment. She may wait downstairs / with you / short relief if the home is unusable (#145). Exit awareness still follows #37. Feeling unwell after → #38.

Step 5 — Soft MOM

Safe housing during chemical treatment matters. Soft framing on mom.gov.sg. Platform ≠ agency. No invented $.

Scripts

To helper: Pest control is [day/time]. We leave by [time] and return after [time]. Please help cover food as on this list — do not stay in treated rooms early.

To co-employer: Fogging day gets a written leave/return brief — same seriousness as reno day.

Bottom line

Brief leave/return, cover food, secure pets, pause duties — then re-enter only when the contractor says it is clear. Browse on SmartMaid; place through a licensed EA under soft MOM rules.
