Briefing Your Helper Before a Home Renovation (Singapore)

Published 22 August 2026

Renovation weeks need a briefing — not “just tidy around the workers”

Briefing your helper before a home renovation (Singapore) is the employer checklist when contractors enter: off-limits zones, dust and safety rules, temporary duty cuts, and whether she stays on-site or you arrange cover. Full move-out sits in #117. Fire drills sit in #37. Appliance safety sits in #34. This page owns in-home renovation briefing.

General guidance only. Soft MOM: mom.gov.sg. Follow HDB/MCST reno rules for your estate. SmartMaid.com.sg is a marketplace. Licensed EAs place helpers. Platform ≠ agency. No invented $.

Neighbouring hubs:

Step 1 — Map off-limits and work hours

Which rooms are closed, when workers arrive/leave, and where she may rest. Write it (#32).

Step 2 — Safety brief

No entering active work zones, mask/dust habits if you provide them, power tools are contractor-only. Exit routes still follow #37. Injury → #38.

Step 3 — Temporary duty cut

Pause deep cleaning of wet zones; expect dust. Fair workload (#28). Do not expect hotel-level polish during knock-down weeks.

Step 4 — Access and codes

If contractors get temporary codes, rotate after (#150). Appliance reconnection later uses #34.

Step 5 — Stay, relocate days, or relief

If dust/noise is unsafe or exhausting, consider short relief (#145) or temporary stay elsewhere — moving house process is only if you fully relocate (#117).
