Agreeing Which Weekday Is the MDW Rest Day

Published 5 February 2027

Understanding rest days and fair employment practices protects both your household and your helper. MOM sets minimum standards; fair arrangements built on clear agreement work best long term.

Mandatory rest days

MDWs are entitled to one rest day per week. You and your helper should agree which day applies. At least one rest day each month cannot be compensated away.

Compensation if working on rest day

If she works on a rest day by mutual agreement, compensate with at least one day's salary unless MOM guidance specifies otherwise for your situation.

Health and medical care

Employers cover required medical costs, insurance, and six-monthly examinations. Assist with vaccination records where applicable.

If disagreements arise

Try direct conversation first, then involve the agency. For serious disputes, refer to MOM guidance on mediation and proper repatriation procedures.
