Accommodation Photos for MOM Queries: What to Prepare

Published 31 August 2026

MOM's published pages do not list a standard set of accommodation photos that employers must submit. What MOM does set are the accommodation requirements themselves, and it checks them through random house visits where officers interview your helper at home. If MOM or your agency asks for photos, photograph each item MOM lists: shelter, basic amenities, ventilation, safety, modesty and privacy, plus where she sleeps.

MOM's accommodation requirements

  • Adequate shelter from sun, rain and strong winds.
  • Basic amenities: at least a mattress, pillow, blanket, bathroom amenities and toiletries.
  • Ventilation: sufficient ventilation, with a fan or other mechanical ventilation if natural ventilation is not enough.
  • Safety: she must not sleep near dangerous equipment or structures.
  • Modesty: she must not share a room with an adult or teenage male. Cameras must not be in places where she sleeps, changes or bathes, and she must be told where any cameras are.
  • Space and privacy: a separate room is recommended; if not possible, adequate space and privacy.

If you are asked for photos

  1. A wide shot of where she sleeps, showing the bed, mattress, pillow and blanket.
  2. The window or fan that ventilates the space.
  3. The bathroom she uses.
  4. Anything that shows privacy: a door, curtain or partition.
  5. Do not include her in photos without her agreement, and avoid showing personal documents.

MOM house visits

  • You get an email if a visit is scheduled within the next two weeks, then a call to confirm the date and time.
  • Officers interview your helper at home for about 20 to 30 minutes and take her photo for the record.
  • You do not need to be home, but she must be present. Give her privacy, and do not record the interview.
  • Officers wear MOM uniforms and carry an MOM Authority Card. If in doubt, call MOM on 6438 5122.

If she stays elsewhere temporarily

When she stays with a relative, friend or agency while you travel, MOM says that accommodation must also meet its requirements, and you must notify MOM at least 7 days before the trip.
