A clean handover reduces week-one chaos
When a helper transfers from one Singapore household to another, handover between outgoing and incoming employers can save days of guesswork: medicine routines, school pickup quirks, allergy lists, and “how she likes to be briefed.” Done well, it is short, factual, and EA-mediated. Done badly, it becomes gossip, pressure, or skipped entirely.
This page is an employer briefing for migrant domestic worker (MDW / FDW) transfer handovers. General guidance only. Soft Ministry of Manpower (MOM): confirm live Work Pass / transfer guidance on mom.gov.sg. SmartMaid.com.sg is a marketplace for biodata. Licensed employment agencies (EAs) run placement and paperwork. Platform ≠ agency.

- This article: what outgoing ↔ incoming employers should hand over
Who owns the handover?
Usually:
- Incoming employer asks the listing EA what handover is realistic
- EA mediates with the outgoing employer / helper (consent + timing)
- Outgoing employer shares a short factual note — or declines politely
- Helper still gets a full day-one briefing in the *new* home (handover ≠ skip orientation)
Never cold-call the outgoing household without EA guidance — especially while the helper is still employed there.
What is useful to hand over (keep it short)
Aim for a one-page note or 10-minute EA-arranged call:
- Daily duty outline (childcare / elderly / cooking / housework split)
- Hard allergies, chronic conditions the new employer already has a right to know for safety (through proper channels — not medical gossip)
- School / therapy / medical appointment rhythms
- Appliance quirks that caused past incidents (stove, iron, balcony rules)
- Rest-day pattern that actually worked
- Communication preferences (WhatsApp updates, quiet hours)
If outgoing will not share, your interview + week-one checklist still work. Do not stall the transfer forever waiting for a perfect memo.
What not to hand over
- Character attacks, rumour, or “she’s lazy” labels without facts
- Private chat screenshots
- Salary gossip presented as rules (no invented $ rates on this site; money via proper EA / contract channels)
- Pressure on the helper to badmouth either household
- Compliance shortcuts (“just ignore MOM / EA process”)
Handover is continuity, not a tribunal.
Incoming employer: how to ask
Message the EA:
“We’re proceeding with [biodata]. Can you request a short handover from the outgoing employer covering duties, allergies/safety, and rest-day pattern? Happy with a written summary if a call isn’t possible.”
Then still run your own:
- Language / duty echo in interview
- Day-one orientation (checklist)
- Written house rules
Outgoing employer: how to give (or decline)
If you are the outgoing side:
- Keep notes calm and factual
- Share through the EA when asked
- You may decline sensitive details — say so cleanly
- Do not hold the helper’s transfer hostage over personal disputes — loop EA / soft MOM channels if the dispute is about employment terms
EA’s job in the middle
A good EA will:
- Set expectations on what can be shared
- Protect both households’ privacy
- Align Work Permit / transfer timing so handover does not break compliance
- Step in if either side turns the handover into conflict (loop early)
If the EA shrugs at all handover requests *and* refuses any verification, treat that as a process smell (boutique vs large / process questions, MOM EA directory stats).
Day-one still belongs to the new home
Even with a perfect outgoing note:
- Walk the new layout, keys, fire escape, childproofing
- Re-brief food prefs and grocery rules
- Confirm rest day in the *new* contract reality (soft MOM weekly rest — confirm live on mom.gov.sg)
- Introduce neighbours / visitors rules afresh
Outgoing habits are clues, not commandments.
When handover reveals a mismatch
If outgoing notes contradict biodata or interview in a safety-critical way (duties never done, language not used, care load mis-sold):
- Pause with the EA
- Re-interview or walk away (walk away guide)
- Do not “hope it works” after red flags
Soft MOM reminder
Transfers and Work Pass changes follow licensed EA + MOM processes. Soft MOM: mom.gov.sg. Marketplace ≠ agency. Emergency: 995 / 999.
Copyable handover checklist
Incoming
- [ ] Ask EA to mediate handover

- [ ] Compare note vs biodata + interview
- [ ] Keep full day-one orientation anyway
Outgoing
- [ ] Share short factual note via EA (or decline cleanly)
- [ ] No gossip files; no invented $
- [ ] Do not block lawful transfer process out of spite
EA
- [ ] Consent + timing managed
- [ ] Privacy boundaries clear
- [ ] Transfer paperwork on track
Sample scripts
Incoming → EA: “Please request a one-page duty and safety handover from the outgoing employer. Written is fine.”
Outgoing → EA: “Happy to share a short duty/allergy/rest-day summary. I won’t discuss private family matters.”
If refused: “Understood — we’ll proceed with interview notes and our day-one checklist.”
Bottom line
Handover between outgoing and incoming employers works when it is short, factual, and EA-mediated — supporting continuity without gossip or compliance shortcuts. Use it to brief week one, then orient the helper to *your* home. Browse transfer biodata on SmartMaid; let licensed EAs run the transfer path under soft MOM rules.
