MOM says a Work Permit application through FDW eService is processed within 1 week, and the online form for employers without Singpass within 3 weeks for most cases. Either can take longer if MOM needs more information. While you wait, your job is to watch your email, answer MOM's requests quickly, keep the helper's arrival plans flexible, and avoid anything she cannot legally do yet, such as starting work before she holds a valid pass.
MOM's stated timelines
- FDW eService application: within 1 week, unless more information is required. Log in to check after 1 week.
- Online application form (no Singpass): within 3 weeks for most cases.
- Appeal after rejection: MOM says 90% are processed within 2 weeks.
- Getting the permit issued after arrival: immediate, done within 2 weeks of her arrival.

What to do while you wait
- Check the email address on the application. MOM sends the outcome there.
- Check status without logging in. MOM has a public checker for work pass and application status on its MDW eServices and forms page.
- Answer requests for information fast. MOM says extra information is the usual reason for a longer wait.
- If an agency is handling it, make sure you have authorised the agency in FDW eService. Requests lapse after 7 days if you do not respond.
- Do not book a fixed arrival date yet. She can only come to Singapore after the IPA letter is issued and the $5,000 security bond is bought, where a bond applies.
What the helper cannot do yet
MOM's rules say a helper needs a valid Work Permit to work. Employing a helper without one can lead to a fine of $5,000 to $30,000, up to 1 year in prison, or both. MOM also says helpers must not be in Singapore during the Work Permit application. Sources: Employment rules for MDWs and MDW eligibility.
After approval: deadlines that start running
- Before she arrives: buy the security bond and both insurance policies. Your bank or insurer needs up to 3 working days to send MOM the bond details.
- First-time helpers: Settling-in Programme within 7 days of arrival, excluding Sundays and public holidays.
- All helpers: medical examination within 14 days of arrival.
- If she needs more time to arrive, extend the IPA in FDW eService.
If the application is rejected
Read the rejection advisory in FDW eService. Appeals cannot be made on the same day as the application; log in the next day and click Appeal. Only the employer or the agency that applied can appeal.
