Employer Guide to PayNow and Alternate Levy Payment Options

Published 16 September 2026

MOM's preferred way to pay the levy is GIRO, but it is not the only option. Here is how each method works and how family members can help when you are busy or overseas.

Option 1: GIRO

MOM recommends GIRO for hassle-free payment. You can apply for GIRO in the Check and pay foreign worker levy eService. Once approved:

  • The levy for each month is deducted on the 17th of the following month, or the next working day.
  • Keep enough funds in the account by 6pm one working day before the deduction, and make sure any GIRO limit covers the bill.
  • You can check the deduction status about 2 working days later, or in your bank's app.

Option 2: PayNow QR

If you do not have a GIRO arrangement, you can generate a PayNow QR code in the same eService and pay from your banking app. The due date is the same: the 17th of the following month. PayNow is also handy for paying an outstanding amount after a failed GIRO deduction.

Paying on the employer's behalf

MOM lets existing sponsors and an appointed family member pay the levy on the employer's behalf using PayNow QR. To appoint a family member:

  1. Both of you complete MOM's consent form.
  2. The family member logs in to FDW eService with their own Singpass and uploads the form.
  3. Approval takes up to 3 working days, and there is no expiry.

Each employer can appoint one family member, and each person can act for up to two employers.

Keeping records

  • Your latest levy bill is available online from the 3rd working day of each month.
  • Save the payment reference for PayNow payments.
  • Check the bill after any change, such as a new concession or a second helper.

For rates and concessions, see our MDW levy and concession guide and FDW eService portal guide.

A practical routine

  1. Set up GIRO as soon as the Work Permit is issued.
  2. Add a phone reminder for the 12th of each month to check the balance of the GIRO account.
  3. After the 17th, glance at your bank app to confirm the deduction.
  4. If anything fails, pay the outstanding amount by PayNow QR the same week.
  5. If you travel often, appoint a trusted family member in advance, so someone can pay while you are away.

This routine takes a couple of minutes a month and avoids the late-payment penalties that follow a failed deduction.

Common questions

Can I pay the levy by cheque or cash?

MOM's current guidance points employers to GIRO, with PayNow QR for those without GIRO. Check MOM's paying levy page for the latest options.

Will a family member see my other records?

The appointed family member can carry out the levy and pass transactions MOM lists for that role. Choose someone you trust with these tasks.
