Looking for a domestic helper in Singapore? Search maid Singapore biodata published by licensed maid agencies: 4,910 profiles from 14 agencies are live right now. On SmartMaid you can filter profiles by nationality, skills, languages, overseas experience, and transfer vs new hire, then shortlist favourites and enquire with the publishing agency. Domestic helper, maid and MDW (migrant domestic worker) all mean the same search here.

Who can hire a domestic helper in Singapore?

Most households hire through a licensed employment agency, and MOM approves each Work Permit. According to MOM's employer requirements, the employer should be 21 or older, not an undischarged bankrupt, and able to understand and carry out an employer's responsibilities. MOM also looks at your caregiving needs, such as young children or elderly family members, and whether you can support a helper in suitable accommodation. First-time employers attend the Employer Orientation Programme (EOP) before the Work Permit application. Your agency can confirm how these points apply to your household; the official pages have the current wording.

The helper has her own criteria too. MOM's helper eligibility page covers her age at application, her education and the approved source countries, so it is worth reading before you fall for a profile that may not qualify.

Three ways to find a helper: transfer, new hire or ex-Singapore

  • Transfer helpers (45 live) already work in Singapore and are ready to change employer. You can usually interview them in person, and the start is often sooner. See transfer maids and the transfer maid guide.
  • New hires from overseas (4,865 live) are recruited from their home country and travel after approval. The pool is wider, but documents and travel take longer. Browse new maids from overseas.
  • Helpers with Singapore experience (721 live) have worked for a Singapore household before, whether they are transferring now or returning from home. Browse ex-Singapore maids.

No route suits every family. If you need someone quickly and want to meet her first, start with transfers. If you have a few months and want the widest choice, include new hires. Many employers shortlist from both and decide after interviews.

Domestic helpers by nationality

SmartMaid lists helpers from several source countries. The live mix today:

Nationality is a starting filter, not a promise about any one person. Language, cooking, childcare and elderly-care experience vary widely within every group, so read each biodata and ask about the duties you actually need.

How to shortlist a domestic helper

  1. Write your job brief first. List who she will care for, the main duties, your home type, pets, rest-day plans and when you need her to start.
  2. Filter by what cannot change. Pick two or three must-haves, for example infant care, cooking or elderly care, and use the elderly care, infant care or cooking filters.
  3. Read the whole biodata. Check work history, the countries she worked in, the duties she did and any notes from the agency. Save three to five favourites.
  4. Enquire with the agency on each listing. Ask whether she is still available, what her last household was like, and when she could start.
  5. Interview for fit. Talk through a normal day, rest days and anything you are unsure about. For a transfer helper, ask about her release date.
  6. Get the terms in writing. Confirm salary, rest days, duties, the agency's service scope and fees before you sign.

What does a domestic helper cost?

The total is made of a few parts: her monthly salary (agreed with her and written into the contract), the monthly foreign worker levy paid to MOM (a lower concessionary rate applies to some households with young children, elderly or disabled family members; see MOM's levy concession page), insurance and a security bond for the Work Permit, the agency's service fee, and one-time items such as medical checks and, for new hires, travel. Fees differ between agencies, so ask each one for a written breakdown. Our maid cost in Singapore page walks through every component.

Next steps after you shortlist

  1. Enquire with the licensed agency on each listing (WhatsApp or Send Enquiry)
  2. Interview for fit: skills, language, rest day, salary
  3. Confirm package and timeline in writing with the agency
  4. Follow the MOM Work Permit steps with your agency; see the employer FAQ and our first-time employer guide

Domestic helper Singapore: common questions

How do I search for a maid in Singapore?

Browse maid biodata from licensed agencies on SmartMaid. Filter by nationality, skills and transfer status, shortlist two or three profiles, then enquire with each publishing agency to arrange interviews. Domestic helper profiles appear in the same results.

Can I hire a maid without an agency?

Some transfer and direct-hire routes exist, but most employers work with licensed employment agencies for Work Permit processing. SmartMaid helps you find agency-published biodata; the agency handles the paperwork with you.

Who is eligible to hire a domestic helper in Singapore?

MOM looks for employers aged 21 or older who are not undischarged bankrupts and can carry out an employer's duties. It also considers caregiving needs and whether you can support a helper. Check MOM's employer requirements page for the current criteria.

What is the difference between a domestic helper, a maid and an MDW?

They describe the same job. MOM uses "migrant domestic worker" (MDW) and older documents say FDW. Employers usually say maid or helper. On SmartMaid all of these terms lead to the same biodata search.

Should I choose a transfer helper or a new hire from overseas?

A transfer helper is already in Singapore, so you can usually meet her and she may start sooner. A new hire offers a wider pool but takes longer. Many employers shortlist from both routes, then decide after interviews.

How many domestic helper profiles are on SmartMaid?

There are 4,910 live profiles from 14 licensed agencies right now, including 45 transfer helpers. The number changes daily as agencies publish new biodata and mark helpers as hired.

What should I ask an agency before I commit?

Ask whether the helper is still available, what the service fee covers, which documents you need to provide, the expected timeline and what support is offered in the first months. Get the answers in writing before you sign.

Does SmartMaid handle the Work Permit?

The licensed agency that published the biodata handles the Work Permit application with you. SmartMaid is the smart maid search platform where you find, compare and shortlist helpers before you enquire.
