Work Permit Photo Requirements for Domestic Helpers

Published 27 August 2026

Your helper's photo is used for her Work Permit records and card, so it needs to be clear and current. In many cases MOM captures the photo itself: if the Temporary Work Permit says she must register, her fingerprints and photo are taken at MOM Services Centre (Hall C). For any photo you upload during an application, follow the photo guidelines shown in MOM's eService at the time you apply.

When a photo is needed

  • At application: the employer or agency submits the helper's details and supporting documents. Check the eService for current photo specifications before uploading.
  • At registration: if registration is required, MOM takes her photo on the spot, so she only needs to attend with the documents listed in the notice.
  • At renewal or replacement: check whether a new photo is needed, especially if her appearance has changed a lot.

Practical tips for a photo that is accepted first time

  • Use a recent photo that looks like her today.
  • Choose a plain, light background and even lighting, with no shadows on the face.
  • Face the camera directly with a neutral expression and eyes open.
  • Avoid hats, sunglasses and filters. If she wears a headscarf for religious reasons, make sure her face is fully visible.
  • Upload the file in the format and size the eService asks for.

Who usually handles it

If you hire through a licensed employment agency, the agency normally prepares the photo and documents with the application. Ask which photo they used so that it matches her passport details.

If a photo is rejected

A rejected photo can delay the application. Retake it following the eService guidance and resubmit. If you are unsure why it was rejected, ask your agency or contact MOM.

For the full process, see MOM's steps to apply for a Work Permit and our first-time employer guide.

A little preparation here saves a second trip. Keep a digital copy of the photo with her passport scan so the same image is ready if your agency or MOM asks for it again.

Keep her records consistent

Her name and details on MOM's records should match her passport exactly. If her particulars change, such as a new passport number or expiry date, update them in FDW eService. MOM informs ICA, and she can use the automated immigration gates 4 working days after the confirmation email. Read our passport renewal guide.

Consistent records also make renewals, levy matters and insurance claims smoother, because every document shows the same name and number.

Common questions

Does my helper need a new photo for renewal?

It depends on the application. Check the renewal eService; if it asks for a photo, use a recent one that matches how she looks now.

Who takes the photo at registration?

If registration is required, MOM captures her photo and fingerprints at MOM Services Centre (Hall C) during her appointment.
