Standard Employment Contract for MDWs: What Every Clause Means for Employers

Published 25 August 2026

MOM requires employers to use the standard employment contract for migrant domestic workers. Reading each section before signing prevents disputes later.

Key clauses employers should review

Focus on salary amount, payment date, rest days, job scope, termination notice, and safety responsibilities. Verbal side agreements that contradict the contract create risk.

Rest days and compensation

Rest-day arrangements must follow employment standards. Put agreed rest-day weekday in writing and understand compensation if work on rest day is mutually agreed.

Keeping signed copies

Employers and helpers should each retain signed copies. Store contracts with Work Permit, IPA, and insurance records for MOM queries.
