Part-Time Help vs Full-Time MDW: Cost Context

Published 19 December 2026

Employer budgeting and MOM levy rules involves more than monthly salary. Singapore employers also pay levy, insurance, and day-to-day upkeep. This article outlines cost categories so you can plan before you hire — figures change, so verify current rates on MOM.

Monthly salary

Salary is agreed between employer, agency, and helper within market practice and documented in the employment contract. Biodata may show indicative ranges; confirm final amounts before signing.

Foreign worker levy

Employers pay monthly levy to MOM while the Work Permit is valid. Some households qualify for concessionary levy if MOM criteria are met. Set up GIRO or approved payment early to avoid renewal issues.

Agency fees and helper loans

Agency service charges and any placement fee arrangements should be explained in writing. Understand what is included: documentation, training, and post-placement support.

Insurance, bond, and medical costs

Security bond, medical insurance, personal accident cover, six-monthly medical examinations (6ME), and food/accommodation are ongoing employer responsibilities.
