Your GIRO levy deduction appears as a single line in your bank statement, but the details behind it are in your MOM levy bill. Reading the two together takes a few minutes and helps you spot errors early, such as a wrong rate or days charged after a helper has left.
What you see in your bank statement
The deduction is made on the 17th of the month (or the next working day) for the previous month's levy. Your bank shows the amount and a reference from MOM. If you employ more than one helper, the deduction usually covers all of them together.
What to check in the levy bill
- Helper details: the name and Work Permit number of each helper you employ.
- Levy rate: normal or concessionary. If you believe you qualify for the concession but see the normal rate, check whether your concession has been approved or has lapsed.
- Days charged: a full month, or a daily rate for a part-month (for example the month she arrived, or the month the permit was cancelled).
- Penalties or adjustments: a late-payment penalty from an earlier failed deduction, or a credit from an approved levy waiver.
- Total and due date: the amount that GIRO will deduct.
Matching the two
- View the latest bill online (available from the 3rd working day of each month).
- Compare the bill total with the bank deduction after the 17th.
- If the numbers differ, check whether a deduction failed and a penalty was added, whether your rate changed, or whether a waiver credit has not yet been applied.
- Check the deduction status online about two working days after the deduction date.
Common reasons for a higher amount
- An earlier GIRO deduction failed, so the next bill includes the unpaid amount and a late-payment penalty.
- A levy concession ended (for example, a child turned 16), so the normal rate applies from that date.
- You hired an additional helper, which is charged at the rate for subsequent helpers.
If something still looks wrong, contact MOM with the bill details. Keep bills and bank statements together; they are useful proof if you apply for a waiver or need to show payment history.

A monthly two-minute check

- After the deduction, match the amount to your bank statement.
- Save both with your household records.
Common questions
Why does my bill show a daily rate?
A daily rate is used for a part-month, such as the month your helper arrived or the month her Work Permit was cancelled.
When can I see whether GIRO went through?
MOM's levy service shows the deduction status about two working days after the deduction date. Your bank app usually shows it sooner.
