Employer Role During MOM Spot Checks and Audits

Published 11 September 2026

MOM checks on helpers' well-being in a few structured ways: compulsory interviews for first-time helpers, random house visits, and post-placement checks by employment agencies. None of these is a reason to worry, but each has clear expectations for employers.

1. Interviews for first-time helpers

  • First-time helpers attend a private, in-person interview twice in their first year, conducted by the Centre for Domestic Employees (CDE) at a CDEConnect centre.
  • As the employer you make the appointment and make sure she attends. MOM says the Work Permit may be revoked if she does not.
  • She brings her Work Permit card or digital work pass, and her employment contract including salary records.
  • The interview is with her alone. If your household cannot spare her because of caregiving needs, contact CDE to ask about alternative arrangements.

2. Random house visits

  • If your household is selected, you receive an email about two weeks ahead and a call to confirm the date and time.
  • A pair of MOM-appointed officers speak to your helper at your doorstep for about 20 to 30 minutes and take a photo for their records. They do not enter your home.
  • You do not need to be at home, but your helper must be present, and she should be given privacy. Recording the interview is not allowed.
  • Officers wear MOM uniforms and carry an MOM Authority Card. You can verify them by calling MOM.

3. Agency post-placement check

If you hired through an employment agency, the agency is expected to check in within three months to see whether your helper is settling in and whether you are satisfied.

Good records make every check simple

  • Signed employment contract and safety agreement.
  • Salary records showing each payment, preferably by bank transfer.
  • Rest-day arrangements and any compensation agreed in writing.
  • Copies of the IPA letter, Work Permit and insurance policy.

Official guidance: MOM's pages on house visits and helper interviews.

Keep her rest-day records, salary records and medical documents in one folder so anyone at home can find them quickly.

What a well-prepared home looks like

  • Her sleeping area has privacy, ventilation, a mattress, pillow and blanket, and she does not share a room with a male adult or teenager.
  • She knows where any cameras are, and none are where she sleeps, changes or bathes.
  • She has a weekly rest day, recorded in FDW eService, and three meals a day.

If these basics are in place, any interview or visit is usually a short, routine conversation.

Common questions

Do I need to take leave for a house visit?

You do not need to be at home. Your helper must be present, and the officers will update you or a household member afterwards.

Can I sit in on my helper's interview?

The interview is private. You can wait in the waiting area at the CDEConnect centre, but she is interviewed alone.
