Employer Responsibilities for Lost Work Permit Cards

Published 15 September 2026

Losing a Work Permit card happens more often than people think, usually on a rest day or during travel. MOM gives employers a clear process and a deadline, so act quickly.

The deadline

MOM requires you to apply for a replacement within 1 week if the card is lost, stolen or damaged. For a stolen card, you must also file a police report.

How to apply

  1. Log in to WP Online and apply for a replacement card. You or your appointed agency can apply.
  2. Pay the replacement fee online. MOM charges a higher fee for repeat losses, and fees are non-refundable.
  3. If the application is approved, print the card replacement letter. It explains how to collect the card.

Most applications are processed immediately. MOM may call you for an interview before issuing a new card. If your helper has lost her card three or more times, submit a request to MOM instead of using WP Online.

Collecting the new card

The card is ready 4 working days after approval at MOM Services Centre (Hall C), with no appointment needed. Bring:

  • Your helper's original passport.
  • The card replacement letter.
  • The completed declaration form (for lost or stolen cards).
  • The police report (for stolen cards).

For a lost or stolen card, your helper must collect it in person.

If the card is lost overseas

Inform MOM immediately. MOM will issue a letter so your helper can enter Singapore.

If the old card turns up

Return it to MOM by post at the address on MOM's page. Do not keep using it.

Preventing it happening again

  • MOM encourages helpers to use the digital work pass in the SGWorkPass app, which lowers the risk of losing the physical card.
  • Suggest a card holder or a zipped pocket in her bag for rest days.
  • Keep a photocopy of the card and her passport at home.

The card is your helper's identification in Singapore, so it should stay with her rather than with you.

A quick action plan

  1. Day 1: search the places she visited and check with the venue or transport operator's lost and found.
  2. If you suspect theft, file a police report straight away.
  3. Within the week: apply in WP Online and print the replacement letter.
  4. After approval: go with her to Hall C with the documents listed above.

Staying within MOM's one-week window keeps the process simple.

Common questions

Does a lost card need a police report?

MOM requires a police report for a stolen card. For a lost card, complete MOM's declaration form when collecting the replacement.

Can my helper work while waiting for the new card?

Her Work Permit is still valid. She can use her digital work pass in the SGWorkPass app in the meantime.
